The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) rolled out its new Health and Nutrition Mobile Unit in September 2010.

DPSS is committed to reducing hunger and improving poor health by reaching out to thousands of low income L.A. County residents who may be eligible to receive CalFresh and/or Medi-Cal benefits, especially in this economic recession.

A satellite office on wheels, the DPSS Health and Nutrition Mobile Unit is staffed with Eligibility Workers who are able to interview potentially eligible individuals and families and assist them to apply for CalFresh and/or Medi-Cal benefits on-site.

The DPSS Health and Nutrition Mobile Unit measures 34 ft. (bumper to bumper) and features two 3 ft. slide-out sections, four screening areas, one Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 compliant screening room and a wheelchair lift.
