Supportive Services

1. Question: What is the time limit for MSARP participation?

Answer:

MSARP participation is for up to 9 months (6 months plus a 3 month extension, if needed), consecutively.

2. Question: What are the procedures when a GROW participant has self-enrolled in substance abuse treatment facility not approved by the County, and not on the County's inventory?

  Answer:

Case management staff should contact their district's MSARP liaison for all matters concerning possible additions to the inventory

3. Question: What does the case manager do when the MH treatment provider assigns the participant less than 20 hours of services (most of the time it is between 5 and 10 hours), and the provider insists the participant cannot handle a concurrent assignment to another GROW activity to make up the difference? Does the case manager go by the GROW regulations or follow what the MH treatment provider recommends?

  Answer:

The case manager continues to work with the client to ensure that the participant completes his/her 20 hours of service. Participants are not automatically exempted (if less than 20 hours) because the Mental Health treatment provider states that the participant cannot participate in other GROW activities. DMH will be informed that these individuals should be considered for NSA status if they cannot participate in GROW activities 20 hours per week.

4. Question: Current procedures have MSARP participants in residential treatment exempt from attending Orientation/Job Skills Assessment, and case management staff updating the computer as if the participant showed, to avoid the participant going into noncompliance. When the participant completes MSARP and is brought in to GROW, do they attend Orientation at that time? The participant will not be on the list as scheduled to attend Orientation.

Answer: Case managers should manually schedule these participants for Orientation. Case managers must also control for compliance since the computer will not initiate noncompliance if the participant does not show.
