RAPID EMPLOYMENT AND PROMOTION (REP)

DESCRIPTION

The REP program is a 20-hour a week activity that offers individualized and small-group job services and workshops to voluntary participants whose GR case is pending approval.   Although the participants are volunteers, they must also meet the following selection criteria:

  • Must be “Job Ready” – able to start employment immediately, if offered
  • Must be able to provide CA driver’s license or ID, Social Security Card, and proof of EDD registration
KEY POINTS
  • The REP component is a six-week activity.
  • It is introduced to participants in Orientation/Motivation and participation is limited to only one or two participants from each Orientation class.
  • All participants interested in the REP program will sign an interest form and will then be scheduled an appointment for a “Job Readiness Interview” no more than three days following Orientation.  This “Job Readiness Interview” is the process by which the Job Coach, who is the contracted provider, determines which participants will be selected.
  • Upon completion of the “Job Readiness Interview”, the participants that are selected for the program will be enrolled and scheduled for a variety of workshops that are offered by the provider, and/or job services.
  • The scheduled workshops (such as Applications, Interview Techniques, Resumes, Seeking Employment with a Criminal Background, Job Retention, etc.) are either selected by the participant or determined necessary by the Job Coach based upon information gathered in the “Job Readiness Interview”.
  • The Employment Development Team (EDT) consists of a GROW Case Manager, a GROW Job Developer and the REP Job Coach.  The team discusses each participant’s case, employment goals, employment barriers, etc. in order to develop a personalized plan towards financial self-sufficiency.  The team meets twice each month to discuss and readily evaluate the REP participants and to identify resources, programs, and/or referrals to meet the immediate needs of the individual participants.

RESULTS

The goal of the REP program is to offer job services and capture employment opportunities for GR participants who are ready to secure employment immediately, as opposed to waiting for the regular GROW flow.

If a participant completes the six-week REP activity and has not secured employment they will then be referred back to their Case Worker to continue in the GROW flow, however, unless recommended by the Employment Development Team, the participant will not be required to complete JSPC.
