Following are some of most frequently asked
questions by the employers.
| 1. |
What benefit is it to my company
to hire a GAIN participant? |
Your company will benefit by hiring GAIN
participant on many levels. For one, GAIN will provide you with pre-screened
and qualified individuals based on your specific needs. Thus, you
can eliminate the cost of advertising job openings, as well as, the
time you would spend on interviewing random applicants. Another advantage
is that there are generous tax incentives such as the Work Opportunity
Tax Credit (WOTC) and the Welfare-to Work Tax Credit that will provide
your company with as much as $8,500 per employee and there is no limit
to the number of employees a company may hire.
| 2. |
What guarantees do I have that a
GAIN participant will come to work and stay employed? |
You have the same guarantee that you
would have with any individual off the street. However, the added
advantage of a GAIN participant is that this individual has a built
in support system with a GAIN Case Manager and other resources and
services include, and are not limited to: Mentoring, Counseling, Continued
Education Development, Child Care Services, Supportive services and
many more.
| 3. |
How long does a GAIN participant
have to work for my company before I can receive a tax credit?
|
The amount of time an individual works
for you will determine the amount of the tax credit . In general,
an individual needs to be retained at least 400 hours to receive the
maximum amount. For a detailed account of how the WOTC and Welfare-to-Work
Tax Credit can work for you please refer to the Employment Development
Department (EDD) Employer Guide at WWW.edd.cahwnet.gov/wotcergd.
| 4. |
Does the GAIN program provide drug
testing or background checks before making referrals? |
At present the GAIN program does not
conduct formal drug testing nor background checks on participants.
However, during the pre-screening process all individuals are confronted
on these issues.
| 5. |
If I hire someone from the GAIN program
how can I be sure that they will be a productive and dependable employee?
|
Please refer to Question 2
| 6. |
Once I hire a GAIN participant, does
the candidate perform under my rules and requirements or under GAIN's?
|
The individual you choose to hire will
be a regular employee like everyone else already working for you.
You decide the standards for your company.
| 7. |
What does your pre-screening process
involve? |
Once a job order has been received we
immediately contact a pool of interested applicants and determine,
based on your requirements and specifications, those who we feel will
be a good fit to meet your employment needs. Once a select group has
been established, we can either arrange an in-house interview for
you to meet the potential candidates or we can arrange for candidates
to interview at your work location.
| 8. |
I hired a GAIN participant and have
realized that this individual can benefit by obtaining further training
but I can not offer the training. What now? |
Career mobility is something that GAIN
firmly believes in. For this reason, we have specialized services
for employed participants that will enable them to upgrade their skills
and continue their education in order to retain and promote within
a job. For further information please have your employee speak to
their GAIN Case Manager and request Post Employment Services.
| 9. |
How can I have my available jobs
posted? |
The easiest means is to contact your
local GAIN office and speak to a Job Developer who will gladly place
a job order for you. If for any reason we are unable to fill your
order we will gladly post your job opening on Caljobs for free.
