FAQs on Child Care
  • Q: I can't afford child care. How can I receive assistance with child care payments?
  • A: Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) administers the CalWORKs Stage 1 Child Care Program which is a subsidized child care program for eligible families on CalWORKs (welfare cash assistance), through contracts with 10 local child care Resource and Referral/Alternative Payment Program (R&R/APP) agencies.  The R&R/APP agencies are also contracted by the California Department of Education to administer other child care subsidy and assistance programs which may be able to assist you.  The R&R/APP agencies provide services in areas by zip codes.

Please call the Statewide R&R Child Care Connection number at (800) 543-7793 to obtain the phone number to the R&R agency that services your home's zip code.  You can also search for local R&R/APP agencies by entering your zip code in our agency locator.  Click here to be redirected to the page.
